Doubt over Gow decision

Both management teams were unsure whether the incident that led to Alan Gow`s match-winning penalty for Notts County at Sheffield Wednesday took place inside or outside the area. In what was a contentious decision, Gow was given his opportunity - which he duly converted - to put Notts County ahead in the 26th minute when he went down under pressure from Mark Beevers. It turned out to be the game`s only goal, and Owls boss Gary Megson said: "Mark Beevers only had to keep him out. Alan Gow had a heavy touch, in fact his touch was so heavy the ball almost went into the river behind the stadium. "It was difficult to say whether the incident was inside or outside the box because nothing seemed to happen." The Owls remain without a league win at Hillsborough since December, and Megson added: "The performance was insipid. We didn't ask many questions of their goalkeeper, but to be fair they didn't ask many of ours either. "We've discussed the pressure of the fans, but to be fair if you come to play for Sheffield Wednesday you know it's a big club and that's why they come and sign for us."
