One of Sheffield Wednesday’s League One promotion rivals, MK Dons have stated their interest in hanging on to Owls loanee Mark Beevers.
Beevers joined the Dons early on in the season and has impressed in the 15 games he has played for the club. They have enjoyed a fair amount of success during this period and currently sit in 3rd position in League One, just 3 points adrift of the Owls.
Mk manager Karl Robinson told BBC local radio that he would love to keep Beevers for longer but it would be difficult with him having performed so well as the decision lies in the hands of his parent club.
It will be interesting to see how Wednesday handle the situation when the current deal expires at the end of December. The centre-back has clearly been an asset to the Dons who, with almost half the season now played, have to be regarding as genuine promotion contenders and as such a direct rival to the Owls aspirations. However, Wednesday have defended stoutly in his absence and have been on an excellent run of form of their own. Danny Batth and Rob Jones have forged a useful partnership at the heart of the defence and there are likely to be others ahead of Beevers in the pecking order should either of these be unavailable in the future. Having a player return who may not be in the managers immediate 1st team plans may not be a good thing for dressing room spirit.
Perhaps the best thing from Wednesday’s perspective would be to allow the player to go out on loan to another club that are less likely to challenge the Owls for a promotion place, whether or not this is a viable option for all concerned remains to be seen.
