Debut joy for Ward

Elliott Ward marked his debut with a stunning goal as Doncaster completed a league double over Sheffield Wednesday with a 2-0 victory at Hillsborough. The centre-back, who has joined Rovers on a month-long loan deal from Coca-Cola Championship rivals Coventry, opened the scoring with a superb bicycle kick after 39 minutes that went in off the underside of the bar. Goalkeepers Lee Grant and Neil Sullivan head already been in the thick of the action during an action-packed first half which also saw Marcus Tudgay`s effort cannon back off a post. James O'Connor's second-half own goal put the result beyond doubt, turning Billy Sharp`s strike into his own net after the Rovers man again caused havoc in the Wednesday defence Sharp was then denied by the woodwork but that did not stop Sean O'Driscoll's side from securing a third away league win of the season. The result ended the Owls` run of four league games without defeat at Hillsborough and was Alan Irvine's first home loss since replacing Brian Laws at the helm last month.
