Wednesday Vs Hartlepool Team news & preview Sheffield Wednesday travel to the North East on the back of their midweek Carling Cup defeat at Scunthorpe and Alan Irvine is expected to welcome back a number of players that sat out the 4-2 loss at Glanford Park. Richard Hinds was sent-off on Tuesday evening but captain Darren Purse is expected to return in place of the suspended defender. Purse has been a key component of the Owls good start to the season and his absence was felt as the team shipped 4 goals. In addition to Hinds, Otsemobor, Jones, Heffernan, O’Connor and Morrison all came in the side for the cup game but they could all be replaced with the Owls two goal scorers, Tudgay and Mellor in contention to start, as are Spurr, Buxton and Coke. Tommy Miller played around 30 minutes from the bench against the Iron on his return from injury and will be in with a chance of a place in the side. Hartlepool have made a decent start to the season but have been hit by the resignation of former Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Turner and other key figures at the club. Mick Wadsworth is currently in charge of the first team and will also be hoping his team can bounce back from their first defeat of the season as Wigan knocked them out of the league cup in midweek by three goals to nil at Victoria Park. Pool’s striker Adam Boyd is doubtful due to a knee injury and faces a late test to determine whether he is able to take part. Fellow front man James Brown looks set to be given the all clear but defender Neil Austin is likely to remain sidelined. Wednesday travel to Victoria Park carrying a winless away streak that has now been stretched to a desperately disappointing 12 matches following the cup defeat. The Owls suffered their only defeat in nine games against Pool’s on their last trip to Victoria Park, losing 3-0 on a rain soaked Friday evening in April 2005. The following month Wednesday exacted revenge by beating Hartlepool 4-2 in the play-off final and have since enjoyed a 2-1 victory in the league cup in 2007.
