Symes miss costs Cherries Michael Symes penalty miss early in the second half cost Bournemouth vital points in their promotion push, but it was Sheffield Wednesday's poor finishing ensured a goalless draw. Symes drilled his penalty kick wide of the post after being fouled by Wednesday defender Reda Johnson seven minutes into the second half, but a Bournemouth victory would have been unjust. Wednesday, without a win in nine league outings since mid-December and showing six changes from the side beaten 3-0 by Birmingham City in the FA Cup, were slick, sharp and dominant in the first half. But poor finishing akin with fine goalkeeping by Shwan Jalal kept Bournemouth in the match. Owls trio Isaiah Osbourne, Liam Palmer and Tommy Miller were all guilty of bad misses. Bournemouth's Shaun Cooper hit the base of the Wednesday upright, but Gary Megson's side were good value for their point.
