Sheffield Wednesday's home match against Peterborough on Saturday has been postponed due to safety fears as the arctic weather conditions showed little sign of letting up.
The pitch at Hillsborough was protected by undersoil heating but areas immediately surrounding the stadium have been covered in a thick blanket of snow, rendering roads and pavements in the vicinity treacherous.
"While we are still two days away from the fixture against Peterborough, the areas surrounding Hillsborough Stadium are covered in snow and ice," said Wednesday chief executive Nick Parker.
"It is highly unlikely these areas could be cleared to the extent that would allow fans to come to the game and be guaranteed of their safety.
"Obviously the safety of our supporters is the club's main concern in these circumstances and we would not want to put fans in danger by encouraging them to use icy roads and pavements around Hillsborough."
The League One matches between Brighton and Brentford, Charlton and Hartlepool, Oldham and Leyton Orient and Southampton and Huddersfield have all been postponed, while the League Two game between Cheltenham and Hereford also fell victim to the big freeze
Meanwhile, the cold conditions claimed three further Scottish Cup fourth-round ties on Thursday morning, meaning five of the 16 ties have been called off with more expected to follow.
St Johnstone's trip to Forfar was called off due to a frozen pitch following a 10am inspection, with Raith Rovers v Airdrie and Ayr United v Brechin postponed following 9.15am inspections. They are expected to be joined this by Albion Rovers v Stirling Albion, Edinburgh City v Montrose, and Ross County v Inverurie Loco Works, all of which face 1pm inspections.
