McAuley has been in charge of the Owls Academy for the last three years, and with Mark Beevers, Tommy Spurr, Luke Boden, Richard O'Donnell, Rocky Lekaj and Sean McAllister all progressing into the first team during his tenure, the 36-year-old has been rewarded with a new long-term deal. "The Academy has been a massive asset to Sheffield Wednesday in recent years and securing Sean's services on a five-year contract means that will continue," Owls chairman Lee Strafford said. "Sean has done an excellent job for this club and we are giving him the remit to expand the Academy's operations so that we can spread our net in terms of recruitment and support our scholars to the highest level." McAuley added: "I am delighted to commit my future to Sheffield Wednesday. It has been thoroughly rewarding to see so many Academy players progress to the first team since I have been here but there is much more that we want to achieve as an Academy."
