Zaragoza friendly falls through

Plans for a possible pre-season match up against La Liga outfit Real Zaragoza has not materialised, according to today's Sheffield Star... The newspaper claims that United had tried to bring the Spanish outfit to Bramall Lane in the off-season for a warm-up friendly before next season's npower League One campaign. Zaragoza, who survived relegation to the Spanish second tier, the La Liga Segunda, by the skin of their teeth last season, were going to be possible high-profile visitors at the Lane, but plans have supposedly fallen through. The Blades, though, are hopeful of organising a tie against an 'unnamed' Championship club. Reports suggest that Blackpool could be the opponents. Pre-season fixtures already confirmed include the usual trip to Sheffield FC, a visit to Worksop Town's Sandy Lane, Maltese side Hibernians and South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers.
