Wembley date for Blades?

If United were to pass their examination by Stevenage on Friday and Monday nights, Wembley would be on the horizon for the second time in three years for Blades fans...

A date which you may want to keep free in your diary is Saturday 26th May 2012. If Danny Wilson's men beat Stevenage over two legs, then thousands of Unitedites will be descending upon the national stadium for the 3pm kick-off.

United last reached a play-off final in May 2009 against Burnley in the Championship play-off final, a game regarded as the "richest game in world football" with the prize at the end of it - promotion to the Premier League. On their way to the final, Preston were succumbed to a 2:1 aggregate defeat by the Blades.

United and Stevenage know who they will be facing at the showpiece event at Wembley Stadium should they get there. Huddersfield Town and MK Dons are each battling it out in the other fixture to earn their place in the 90-minute shoot-out for promotion to the Championship.

One fact that remains very much in the memory of Blades fans is that United have never scored a single goal in a play-off final; losing 1:0 to Crystal Palace in 1997, 3:0 to Wolves in 2003, and 1:0 against Burnley in 2009.

Tickets are now on sale for the home leg against Stevenage. Season ticket holders have until Tuesday 7pm to reserve their seats. Tickets are priced from £13 adults, £10 concessions, and £7 under 16s.

The 1,390 tickets allocated for the away leg on Friday night have almost sold out.
