We'll bounce back - Montgomery

The Blades are facing up to a summer of soul-searching, with manager Kevin Blackwell considering his future, following Monday's 1-0 Championship play-off final defeat by Burnley. But Montgomery, who was also part of the United side beaten 3-0 by Wolves at the Millennium Stadium in 2003, found some reasons to be cheerful amid the wreckage of their latest play-off failure. "We've got some very young lads, like Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker, you can see the ability they've got," said Montgomery. "It's going to be a long summer, but we've got to come back for pre-season and be focused on where we want to be. "I'm only 27 myself but I've been through this twice now and it doesn't get any easier. I hope if I get here again it will be third time lucky. "But the young lads have a fantastic future and with the squad we've got, if we can keep the majority of the lads together and maybe add a couple of players, then next season we will have a real chance." The Blades' task will be far tougher next term with the parachute payments, following their relegation from the Premier League two years ago, having run out. The Championship will also be more difficult than ever to get out of with Newcastle, Middlesbrough and West Brom vying to bounce straight back. "There are some big clubs coming down - make no mistake this was a good opportunity to get promoted this season," added Montgomery. "It's going to be a tough division next year, but Sheffield United are a big club with big ambitions. "We've got to get over this now. It's not going to be easy but hopefully next season we can carry on our progression."
