Sheffield United v Nottingham Forest: FA Cup Match Preview

16 February 2014 14:15

After disposing of Colchester, Cambridge, Aston Villa and Fulham in previous rounds, The Blades welcome Nottingham Forest to Bramall Lane and they go into today’s game off the back of a 16 match unbeaten run.

The fixture is assured some added spice due to the friction between Blades manager Nigel Clough and current Forest manager Billy Davies, after an infamous spat following a league game when Clough was in charge of Derby.

Team News

Billy Paynter and Elliott Whitehouse are both ineligible for League One Sheffield United having featured in the FA Cup for Doncaster and York respectively, but captain Michael Doyle is now available after finishing up his three match ban.

Meanwhile, Forest's Guy Moussi will be absent due to a calf injury while Eric Lichaj is unlikely to return from injury.

Henri Lansbury, David Vaughan and Kelvin Wilson are all still on the sidelines as they fight to return to fitness before May, but Chris Cohen and Dexter Blackstock are out for the rest of the campaign.

Stats

Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough scored 131 goals for Nottingham Forest.

There are 41 places between the sides in the league table.

This is the 14th meeting in the FA Cup, with Sheffield United winning seven times and Nottingham Forest three times.

Nottingham Forest have won this competition twice - in 1898 and 1959 - and were beaten 2-1 by Tottenham in the 1991 final.

Prediction

Neither team will be taking this game lightly and you have to feel the rivalry will be on show between the teams for me I think Sheffield United will narrowly take it.
