Blades trio in race against time

Sheffield United trio Chris Porter, Stefan Scougall and Bob Harris are all hoping to prove their fitness in time to face Shrewsbury.

Striker Porter, midfielder Scougall (both hamstring) and defender Harris (calf) all sustained niggles during the extra-time FA Cup replay win at Fulham in midweek and will be monitored.

Skipper Michael Doyle serves the last game of his three-match ban, but forward Billy Paynter and Elliott Whitehouse are expected to return to contention after being ineligible on Tuesday night.

The Blades are chasing their first league win in five matches and their first of the year.

Caretaker manager Mike Jackson must decide whether to stick or twist ahead of Shrewsbury's trip.

Shrews held Sky Bet League One leaders Brentford to a 1-1 draw last weekend, ending a run of four successive defeats and claiming a first point on home soil since towards the end of November.

However, should Jackson opt to freshen up his ranks then recent signings Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Joseph Mills are among those pushing to start, along with Asa Hall, Dave Winfield and fit-again midfielder Luke Summerfield.

Aaron Wildig will be assessed as he looks to shake off a thigh injury which has ruled him out of the last three matches.
