Che Adams set to miss out for Sheffield United

Sheffield United may be without Che Adams for their first-round EFL Cup match against Crewe.

The forward, who featured from the bench in the 1-0 loss to Bolton at the weekend, is believed to be nearing a switch to Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham.

Chris Wilder could give new-look strike pairing Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp another run-out, despite them drawing a blank on Saturday.

Defender Jake Wright, who arrived from Oxford over the summer, will be hoping to make his debut after being an unused substitute at the weekend.

Crewe boss Steve Davis is set to make changes following the intense heat of Saturday's 2-1 win at Stevenage.

Fit-again Ben Nugent is set to start in the centre of defence alongside George Ray.

Nugent did not travel to Stevenage due to a slight knee injury, which he has now recovered from.

Davis told the club's official website: "The team came in on Sunday for a cool down and one or two were a bit sore. It was intense in the heat, so I may make one or two changes. We have a tough opening to the season with three games in a short space of time."
