Championship outfit Derby County have played down reports suggesting that the Pride Park club are to raid the Blades for defender Matt Lowton.

Lowton, 23 (last Saturday) is unlikely to be a summer target for Nigel Clough, primarily a right full-back the Rams already have players in that position with County's 'Player of the Year 2010-11' John Brayford and Tom Naylor chosen in that desired position - only a sale of either player could trigger a potential bid for the Chesterfield born defender.

Derby County FC chief executive Tom Glick dismissed the Lowton link as "nothing more than speculation".

Elsewhere there are suggestions that; Southampton, Leeds United and Ipswich Town may also look at tabling a bid for Lowton.
