Quinny completes objectives

To nail down the services of Richard Cresswell, Chris Morgan, Nick Montgomery and Stephen Quinn were of paramount importance going into the close season... It's been confirmed today (Thursday) that Stephen Quinn has completed the final piece of the jigsaw by commiting to the Blades for a further three years. Quinn, who has emulated fellow team-mates Cresswell, Morgan and Montgomery by renewing for another few seasons, has been with United for five years, but did have loan spells at MK Dons and Rotherham United the same season United were promoted to the Premier League. Quinny, who experienced the relegation from the top-flight with the Blades, said: "I am absolutely delighted to settle the deal and couldn't be happier here because I am so settled. All my family are here and love it to pieces. I have been here for seven years and the club is in my heart so there was no question I would sign. "Last season I had injury worries that I played through, then towards the end I had to get my toe sorted. We weren't quite able to make the play-offs, there was speculation about me leaving in the media and I knew there was interest from other clubs. "When Morgs, Monty and Cressy committed, genuinely I wanted to follow because I knew the core of the squad was in place and we have built on it in the summer. The club has brought in some good players, like Simonsen, Ertl, Bogdanovic and Britton so my signing was really just a matter of time. "Having players committed on long contracts is good for the individual but more importantly for the club because everyone will be busting a gut to succeed for Sheffield United." The Irishman's pre-season has been hampered by a toe injury, but he made his return to the first team in last week's away fixture at Notts County. On the 24-year-old's signature, Chief Executive Trevor Birch said: "This is great news for our fans because it is the final piece of the jigsaw in place after embarking on the mission of re-signing on longer contracts the core of experienced players who know the club. "It means that they - and us - can get on with the job without worrying what might happen at the end of the season, and that was an issue for us last time round. "Stephen is a United player through and through, popular with the lads, and will help the new ones continue the settling-in process which all have started so well. "We are looking to build a squad that has experience and youth, is competitive and unified within and can challenge for promotion. With a couple of additions to the defence which we are working hard on, and with the help of a good crowd behind us, we feel that it is really taking shape."
