Pearson blunts Blades

Greg Pearson scored the only goal as Burton claimed a friendly win over Championship side Sheffield United. The Brewers broke the deadlock after 16 minutes when Jimmy Phillips crossed for Pearson, who held off the challenge of Johnny Ertl to fire the ball beyond Mihkel Aksalu in the Blades goal. United tried to get back into the game but Kevin Poole, who turns 47 on Wednesday, produced some fine saves to deny Daniel Bogdanovic and Richard Cresswell. Trialist Lewis Young was named in Burton's starting line-up along with new signings Nathan Stanton and Darren Moore while Jack Dyer came off the bench in the second half. Former Liverpool defender Gregory Vignal, who is on trial with the Blades, featured at left-back.
