Sheffield United defender Matt Lowton has signed a contract extension at the club. The 21-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at Bramall Lane, has put pen to paper on a deal that runs until the summer of 2012 with an option for a further year. The youngster has made four league appearances for the Blades this season including against Cardiff on the opening day when he was sent off in the first half. Lowton told the club's official website: "My existing deal was due to run out next summer but hopefully the new contract will give me time to develop and learn from the coaches and senior players at the club. "The sending-off at Cardiff was a bit of a blow but I'm delighted to be back in the squad and being involved once again."
