Jones Relying on Blades Slip

Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones has admitted that only a slip up by Sheffield United could pave the way for them stealing second spot after their 1-1 draw at Colchester United at the weekend.

The Owls went a goal behind early doors through Henderson after he poked home from close range - but seven minutes in the second half Miguel Angel Llera reacted first from a corner to level things up. Across the city United beat Leyton Orient 3-1 after they too went a goal behind, but the win leaves Danny Wilson's Blades four points clear of the Owls with three matches remaining.

Jones said: "There's still a long way to go and if it's going to be by that route (the play-offs), then that's what it will be. About 10 or 11 games ago, you were probably talking about being out of it anyway but now all of a sudden, we're in with a shout.

"We have to rely on Sheffield United faltering but that's been what it's been like since the day I walked in. I hope there will be more twists and turns, because of the situation we're in."

The Blades could potentially be promoted next weekend if they claim maximum points at Milton Keynes Dons whilst the Owls fail to beat promotion chasing Carlisle United at Hillsborough.
