Gradi puts out Walton fire

Sheffield United's latest signing Simon Walton attributes his improved disciplinary record to working with Crewe boss Dario Gradi. Walton, who has joined on a season-long loan from Plymouth, has failed to fulfill the potential that saw him make his first-team debut at Leeds aged 16, but feels a spell working under Gradi while on loan at Crewe last season has helped rein in his fiery temper. Walton, now 22, said: "I told Dario Gradi that he helped me a lot. Obviously, a man of his experience and knowledge made me get my feet back on the floor, he led me in the right direction and I'm thankful for what he did for me. "There was no way I would have got away with some of the things I had done in the past under Dario, so in a good way it was like walking on eggshells and he certainly calmed me down. "My disciplinary record is there for all to see. I have had my problems in the past, but last season I only picked up five bookings, which was a real improvement. "I still have a fiery side to my game because you need that, but I have learnt to channel my aggression in a way that is good for the team and myself."
