Fulop and Ashdown both on Blades radar

The controversial departure of Paddy Kenny has left United manager Kevin Blackwell with a real headache, but he has identified his key targets... With the Blades' attempts to sign Steve Simonsen from Stoke City seem to be never-ending, Kevin Blackwell has confirmed that he does have other targets as well as the Potters shot-stopper. Marton Fulop, currently of Sunderland, and Jamie Ashdown, formerly of Portsmouth, and are both keepers United are looking at. Ashdown is currently a free agent and Fulop is reportedly receiving interest from Premier League side West Bromwich Albion. Newspaper reports claim that WBA must pay £1m for his services. Fulop spent the final few games on loan at richmen Manchester City last season. Kevin Blackwell has said that he is monitoring the two goalkeepers, though. Blackie begins to confirm that it is unlikely that Steve Simonsen will be imminently joining the Blades and it isn't a foregone conclusion. "Steve did well and we know all about him but it is far from nailed on and there are other quality goalkeepers about such as Jamie Ashdown (free agent) and Marton Fulop (Sunderland) who we are also looking at. "I would really like to tie a deal up by next week because we had major problems last season by not starting with a regular number one. It is very important that we get one in and bedded down quickly." Incidentally, Fulop is actually Hungarian, not that United's connections with his native country would probably be an advantage.
