The 28-year-old, who had spent the previous six years at Hull, had impressed Wednesday manager Brian Laws during a successful trial at Hillsborough, but has now signed a two-year deal with the Blades. France said: "I've been training with Wednesday for the last three weeks, but at the end of the day they told me they couldn't offer me anything and fortunately scouts came to watch me on Tuesday - United was one of them. "I'm a Sheffield lad, I want to play for a Sheffield team and fortunately I've achieved that. I think United is a club going places. I know what the club is about, it's going to be a difficult division, but we will be up there. "I want to get back to enjoying my football. It's okay being a Premiership footballer, but you want to play and that is why I'm here." The Blades have also signed Blackburn winger Keith Treacy on a six-month loan and the 20-year-old Irishman's arrival takes the number of manager Kevin Blackwell's summer signings to seven.
