Evans picked for Welsh youngsters

The striker, with nine full caps, will now lead the attack for the youngsters in their European Championship qualifying clash with Hungary at Wrexham's Racecourse ground on August 12. And the fact that Evans is with the under-21s, while Simon Church has not been named in coach Brian Flynn's young squad, means that the Reading striker appears to have won himself a place with the seniors for their forthcoming friendly in Montenegro. Church produced an outstanding performance in the 1-0 World Cup victory in Azerbaijan last season on his full debut, and has clearly impressed boss John Toshack. Evans, who was very much a back-up striker at Eastlands, will now have the chance of regular football with the Blades to enhance his chances of a senior Wales recall. Flynn's squad includes three uncapped players. Defender James Bloom, who has left Cardiff for a chance of senior football at Falkirk, is included along with Swansea pair Ashley Richards and Casey Thomas. Also back in the squad after injuries are Chelsea goalkeeper Rhys Taylor and Bristol City defender Christian Ribeiro.
