Carver taking nothing for granted
Sheffield United caretaker manager John Carver is refusing to be drawn on whether he would like the permanent position at Bramall Lane.
The 45-year-old, who occupied the caretaker's role at Leeds in 2006, has been placed in temporary charge of the Blades after Gary Speed left his position to become the new Wales manager on Monday.
Blades chief executive Trevor Birch hinted that Carver could be in the running for the permanent job, but the former Newcastle coach is keen to learn from his mistakes at Elland Road and not look too far ahead.
"I'm here to do a job and whatever job the club say they want me to do I'll do it as long as it's within reason," Carver said. "Anybody would be mad not to want to have a job at this football club. I will do whatever job is put in front of me for the time being.
"There is a part of everybody who wants to be a manager but it's about picking the right time. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself.
"When I was at Leeds I got ahead of myself and I have learned from that so that's why I am going to take this nice and steady and do the job the club ask of me."
