Carver shock at United development

John Carver has been left in shock at the events of the last three days which has seen him plunged into the caretaker manager`s position at Sheffield United. The 45-year-old has been placed in temporary charge following Gary Speed`s departure to become the new manager of Wales. Carver, who held a similar position at Leeds in 2006, only joined the South Yorkshire club in August after Speed was appointed into the Bramall Lane hotseat and is disappointed to see him leave. "I had a feeling he might go because I know how proud he is," he said. "I think it is the only job that could have pulled him away from here because he was cutting his teeth with Kevin (Blackwell) as a coach. "He then made that progression as a manager and dealt with it very, very well. But it was only the lure of the national team that pulled him away and soon as I heard it mentioned I had a little sigh inside. I came here for Gary so this is a little bit of a shock."
