Carney finds the net for Socceroos

Australia, who clinched their place in the World Cup finals in South Africa next summer with a goalless draw in Qatar over the weekend, maintained their unbeaten record in the final round of qualifiers. Mile Sterjovski opened the scoring for the Socceroos in the 55th minute when Harry Kewell steered Carney's long ball into the box and after midfielder Aaish Fouzi failed to clear, the midfielder took full advantage. Carney made sure of the result two minutes from time as he was on hand to slot home the rebound after Jason Culina's overhead kick came back off the post. Winger Carney, signed by former Blades manager Bryan Robson from Sydney FC in the summer of 2007, spent the final three months of last season on loan at Norwich and has since been told he can leave Bramall Lane.
