Former Leeds United, Celtic and Coventry City midfielder Michael Doyle has signed a new contract with Sheffield United.

Doyle, 31 has signed a new contact -keeping him at Bramall Lane until summer 2015 and aims during that time to bring top flight football back to S2. “I’d love to stay for the rest of my career,” he said. “Hopefully I’ll still be playing when this deal is up and hopefully United still want me. I don’t know how long I’ve got left but I do want to carry on past this contract for as long as possible. I’ve bought into what the club are trying to do and couldn’t be happier.”

The Blades captain is suspended for this weekend's trip to Yeovil Town, but ahead of the game said; “The aim within three years has got to be to reach the Premier League, but there’s no point in looking that far ahead. We’ve got to get out of this division first. The potential is definitely here though. Our crowd against Doncaster the other night was bigger than Blackburn’s and they’re top of the Championship.”
