Bolton's Shittu snubs Blades switch

The Nigeria international is yet to make a first-team appearance this season and Bolton are willing to loan him out. The Blades made enquiries for Shittu, but the former Watford man has rejected their overtures. "I spoke to Sam Ellis [United assistant manager] a few times and it was put to Danny he could go there if he wanted for a month's football and could have played six games," Megson told Sky Sports News. "I felt it would have been good for everybody, but Danny didn't want to which is his prerogative so he has not gone." Meanwhile, Megson is set to be boosted by the return of Ricardo Gardner for this weekend's clash with Stoke. Gardner has not featured this season after picking up a hamstring problem in pre-season, but he is now back to full fitness and could return for the clash at the Reebok Stadium. "He was a big plus for us last season," said Megson. "We moved him into central midfield and he did very well for us and got a few goals "He is the quickest player we have got and he carries the ball as well as anybody at this football club and when we lost him against Portsmouth [last season] it was a blow to us. "He was going to be in the side at the beginning of the season, but he pulled his hamstring on the Thursday before the season started, which was a real disappointment for us, but we are really pleased to have him back."
