Blades to wait on Williamson

Williamson, 27, missed the Blades' goalless draw at Middlesbrough on Friday after first complaining of the injury on the club's pre-season tour of Malta and the specialist's diagnosis could force Blades manager Kevin Blackwell back into the transfer market. Blackwell said: "The surgeon is reluctant to operate until Lee has given his back one last chance through resting it for a couple of weeks. After that, if it hasn't cleared up, it will be an operation which will keep him out for at least two months. "It's a big blow and I might well have to look at midfield again as a bit of a priority. Lee would add that bit of composure, energy and the ability to break into the box to score." Williamson opted for a permanent move to Bramall Lane from Watford for an undisclosed fee in June ahead of a return to Preston, where he had spent the final three months of last season on loan.
