Blades submit plans to expand

The submission comes after more than three years of planning and is split into several stages, with the most immediate 'phase one' including plans to increase the Fraser Property Kop stand's seating capacity by more than 3,200.[LNB]Plans include the removal of columns from the Kop, a new undercover concourse with kiosks, executive boxes and a media/business centre as well as improved disabled facilities around the ground and a student residential block.[LNB]United chief executive Jason Rockett believes the developments would meet the demands of a growing fan base, as demonstrated by statistics suggesting they were the 11th-best supported club in the Premier League during the 2006/2007 season, but insisted the off-field development is dependant on the Blades' on-pitch success.[LNB]Rockett told the club's official website: "We have been working on the masterplan for more than three years in order to provide a comprehensive medium to long-term strategy for the expansion of the stadium and to continue to grow off-field revenue streams.[LNB]"Any progress obviously depends on success on the pitch which remains the club's key focus. As we saw in the Premier League before, there was demand for the additional capacity."[LNB][LNB]
