Blades Soon Set To Learn Their Fate

04 June 2013 15:39
Sheffield United will soon discover who they will face in the First round of the League Cup and also our first opponents in the new 2013-14 league season.

The draw for the Capital One Cup will take place at 9.30AM on Monday, 17th June 2013. There will be 70 teams competing, with Wigan Athletic and Reading receiving byes. The draw will be seeded and regionalised, therefore the Blades could potentially face rivals Sheffield Wednesday either at Bramall Lane or across the city at Hillsborough.

United were eliminated from the competition as early as the third round last season when, in August 2012 Burton Albion won the game at Bramall Lane on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra-time. Our most impressive season came under Neil Warnock when, during the 2002-03 campaign the S2 outfit reached the semi-finals and was eliminated over two legs (3-2 on aggregate) by Liverpool who went onto win the cup.

The announcement of the 2013-14 League One fixtures will be announced two days later on Wednesday, 19th June at around 10:00AM. Having being handed an opening day fixture at home last season we would expected that day one, on 3rd August 2013 will start as an away fixture but this has yet to be confirmed.
