Plans to improve facilities on the Kop have been sanctioned by the local authorities, signalling the first phase of redevelopments which could eventually see the stadium's capacity extended to 44,000. Speaking on the club's website, chief executive Jason Rockett said: "This forms part of our extensive business plan which aims to increase income streams for reinvestment into the first-team. "As a club we continue to recognise that success on the pitch is of paramount importance and goes hand in hand with the development of the off-the-field business." The redevelopment of the Kop includes the removal of supporting columns, improved services for disabled fans, a new concourse offering modern kiosks and toilet facilities and new executive boxes. Further proposals to be submitted could see the South Stand extended, an exhibition and conference centre added and a new ticket office and club shop.
