Blackwell: Walton has a future

Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell has not ruled out the possibility of bringing long-term casualty Simon Walton to Bramall Lane on a permanent basis. Midfielder Walton, on season-long loan from Plymouth, was taken off on a stretcher during the first half of his Blades debut against Mansfield last week. The initial prognosis looks set to rule the youngster out for the season, but Blackwell is refusing to rule out the possibility of eventually signing the versatile 22-year-old. Blackwell told the club's official website: "It is a massive blow to the lad, missing a whole campaign because of one tackle and we knew straight away that it was a serious one. "We have spoken to him although at the moment there is no consoling him, but he is young enough to come back from it and we won't dismiss him. "He is contracted to us for this season so we are responsible for his wages, but right now the important issue is to sort out details of his rehabilitation."
