Adams emotional about 'dream' job

New Sheffield United boss Micky Adams has confessed that being appointed the Blades manager is the dream he has always wished for... Becoming the manager of his boyhood team is, of no doubt, one of Adams' proudest moments of his life, and the Blades fan realises what such a prestigious chance he has been offered. Micky lost his father earlier this year and admits that the only downside of today (Thursday) was that his Dad was unable to see him being revealed as the manager of Sheffield United. Micky Adams said: "How many Unitedites get this chance? To go from supporting the team as a kid to being manager is just schoolboy dream stuff. It is a proud moment for me and my family. I lost my Dad in April and he would have been so chuffed for me today. "Most of my family are Blades fans - not all, because some are on the dark side but this will give us all something else to argue over! "Ever since I started in management you keep being asked 'what is your dream job? I have always said this one and I have almost come here before but it wasn't to be. "I will probably get a two week honeymoon instead of one! Seriously, I have to take the emotion away from this scenario because I know that we have to win games." On a serious note, Adams is fully aware of the worrying position United currently find themselves in, and his immediate aims are to collect valuable victories to steer the Blades away from the dreaded drop zone. Adams said: "We are in a precarious position and my immediate aim is to start winning a few games and get as far away as possible from the foot of the table. "When a team is leaking goals and losing games - and perhaps losing a bit of confidence because of it - it is hard to arrest the slide. "Maybe a couple of fresh voices in Alan Cork and myself can spark something. I really don't think I will be able to have too much input into the Burnley and Doncaster games because I haven't met the players yet. "We will try and make them feel better about themselves but a lot of it has to come from within the players - if there was a pill for confidence we would all be using them by now. "For now, under the circumstances, it will probably be about getting the ball into the box quickly and try and cause some carnage." Image copyright to Action Images
