Richard joined Leeds in 2005 just before the transfer deadline of August. He signed for £1.5 Million from Preston. His career started at York city until he moved onto Sheffield Wednesday for a fee of £950,000 in 1999. In 2000 he then went on to play for Leicester city and in 2001 Preston north end. While with York city the young star was also part of the England under 21 national squad.
