Shanghai's Shenhua football club is preparing to sack three assistant coaches, but the team will keep French head coach Jean Tigana, a state-backed newspaper said Wednesday.
Tigana, the former Fulham and Monaco boss, joined the Chinese Super League club in December last year. French striker Nicolas Anelka also joined Shenhua, signing a two-year deal, as the club seeks to improve its record.
But Shenhua has only won two of its five matches so far this season, losing two and drawing one.
The chief investor of Shenhua, Zhu Jun was quoted as saying that the removal of the three assistants who were originally brought on board by Tigana would improve training.
"The main reason for changing the assistant coaches is to strengthen the team's daily training," he told the popular Xinmin Evening News, a Shanghai-based newspaper.
The three assistant coaches, all foreign nationals, were not named in the report but they all had experience in the English Premier League.
A Shenhua official declined to comment on the report.
The club is scheduled to hold a news conference on Thursday amid speculation the move will be announced at that time.
