Shanghai Shenhua are in talks with the 39-year-old Boca Juniors defender Rolando Schiavi while Chinese league champions Guangzhou Evergrande are hoping to sign Brazilian midfielder Elkeson, reports say.

Shanghai, who already boast former Chelsea stars Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, hope to sign Schiavi for the coming season, the Oriental Sports Daily reported, citing club owner Zhu Jun.

Schiavi, a former Argentina international, has already held talks with Shanghai's Argentine coach Sergio Batista, the paper said.

Elkeson is set to join Guangzhou Evergrande after being released by Rio de Janeiro club Botafogo, Xinhua news agency reported.

The 23-year-old will travel to China on January 4 to meet Evergrande's Italian coach Marcelo Lippi and undergo a routine medical examination.

Chinese clubs awash with cash from the nation's economic boom have become attractive destinations for global football stars approaching the end of their careers, or youthful talent seeking to build on their potential.
