Sevilla edged a seven-goal thriller at home to Sporting Gijon, with a 4-3 victory taking Manolo Jimenez's side to the top of the fledgling Primera Liga table.
A Mate Billic double gave the visitors a two-goal cushion 20 minutes in, before the home side powered into a 3-2 lead thanks to strikes from Ernesto Chevanton, Fredi Kanoute and Enzo Maresca.
Bilic completed a super hat-trick right on the stroke of half-time to level the scores, before Kanoute grabbed what proved to be the winner on the hour mark.
Barcelona have yet to register their first win in La Liga this season after being held to a 1-1 draw in the Camp Nou by Racing Santander.
Barca lost their opening game of the season 1-0 at Numancia a fortnight ago, with new coach Pep Guardiola's reign getting off to a slow start.
Against Racing Lionel Messi opened the scoring 19 minutes from time from the penalty spot, but Jonathan equalised just seven minutes later for the visitors.
Atletico Madrid were also beaten, going down 2-1 at Valladolid, despite the home side having Pedro Lopez sent off just 22 minutes into the game.
