Negredo admits Spain challenge

Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo has admitted he is facing stiff competition for a place in Spain's World Cup squad.

Negredo was given the nod by coach Vicente del Bosque for Wednesday's friendly against France in Paris, but has conceded that his place on the plane to South Africa is far from assured.

The likes of Dani Guiza, Fernando Llorente and Roberto Soldado are all vying to be named alongside first-choice duo David Villa and Fernando Torres in the European champions' final 23-man squad.

"There's still a fair bit of time for the World Cup but to be here is an important step," explained Negredo.

"I have to make sure the coach continues counting on me, but there is a lot of the league season left and I have to do everything to be in South Africa.

"Hopefully I can be in the final list, which will be the decisive one.

"There's a lot of work ahead of me to be on there, though. Players such as Soldado, Llorente or (Aritz) Aduriz could also get in as the fourth striker."
