Jimenez staying at Sevilla

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has assured coach Manolo Jimenez that he will be retained next season.

Jimenez has guided the Andalucian club to a third-placed finish in La Liga this season, but remains unpopular with some fans due to the less expansive style of football played under him than some of his predecessors.

But despite failing to win over all of the fans, del Nido claims that Jimenez will be the club's coach when the new season kicks-off.

"There are some fans who can argue about the way the team has played, but the fans must know that we have not renewed Manolo Jimenez, he has renewed himself," he said.

"He has obtained the fundamental aim of this season which was to qualify for the Champions League.

"Achieving third place is an almost unprecedented success in Andalucian football and we must congratulate him for that."
