Jimenez rues home setback

Sevilla manager Manolo Jimenez had no excuses for his side's display in the disastrous 2-1 home defeat to Real Santander.

After remaining unbeaten in their first seven home La Liga matches of the campaign, Sevilla have now lost twice on the trot at their Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan ground, following the pre-Christmas defeat to Getafe.

An unimpressed Jimenez said: "Rather than others losing respect for us at home, we have lost respect for ourselves.

"There are no excuses, we played a disastrous first half. We knew January would be tough, but not this tough.

"They caught us out with counter-attacks that we did not know how to stop. We lacked calmness, perhaps because of our lengthy injury list.

"But that is not an excuse, because we have been losing games more because of our mistakes than our opponents' skill.

"We are confident that we will achieve our objectives and succeed by the end of the season."
