Former Madrid midfielder Michel named new Sevilla coach

Sevilla have named Jose Miguel Gonzalez as their new coach, replacing Marcelino Garcia Toral, who was sacked on Monday after a run of poor results for the Andalusian side.

Better-known in his playing days at Real Madrid as Michel, he will be in charge until the end of the year and his contract will be automatically renewed at the end of the year Sevilla qualify for the Champiopns League.

They are currently 11th in the league.

The 48-year-old Michel was a standout player for Real Madrid and has previously been coach at Getafe among others.

The Sevilla board sacked Toral, who had only been at Sevilla since June 2011,after they failed to register a win in their last seven outings.

Sevilla, beaten at home by Villarreal (2-1) on Sunday, have taken just two points from their last seven games in La Liga.
