Dragutinovic out of World Cup
23 Apr 2010 - 07:04:37
Sevilla defender Ivica Dragutinovic has been ruled out for the rest of the season and Serbia's World Cup campaign after tearing his Achilles tendon in training on Thursday.
It is a desperate blow for the 34-year-old, who has helped the Spanish side win two UEFA Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup during his five year stay and he will travel to Finland to undergo specialised care to correct the problem.
A statement on the club's website read: "Very bad news for Sevilla because in this morning's training session Ivica Dragutinovic fell over seriously injured.
"The Serbian tore the tendon in his left Achilles, in such a way that he has been forced to bid farewell to a season in which he was offering a superlative performance.
"Drago will travel to Finland, together with the head of the club's medical services, Juan Ribas, in order to be examined by Sakari Orava, a prestigious surgeon who specialises in this type of injury, who has treated great sportspeople of the elite."
