Chevanton news lifts Sevilla

Uruguay striker Ernesto Chevanton has provided Sevilla with a timely boost after scans revealed he does not require knee surgery.

The Andalucian club's three-goal top-scorer broke down in training and missed Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against Bolivia.

However, medical tests in Montevideo have revealed no significant bone or ligament damage and the striker will now return to Spain for further tests.

Sevilla have already lost Arouna Kone for six months this season, while Luis Fabiano and Frederic Kanoute have both struggled with knocks already this term.

Speaking earlier in the week, Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido admitted he was concerned with the current list of injury absentees.

"This injury list is huge and we have to think about the best way to recover the majority of the players as quickly as possible," he claimed.

"It is not normal, but we have to overcome these setbacks. I asked the international players to be careful, but we shall see."
