Neck woe for Krstajic

02 Jun 2006 - 17:15:44

Key defender Mladen Krstajic is a major doubt for Serbia Montenegro's World Cup opener against the Holland on June 11 because of a neck injury.

The 32-year-old Schalke star has had the problem for some time, but aggravated it during last weekend's friendly against Uruguay.

"I'm taking medicine every day but it is not helping me," said Krstajic.

"My neck is still very painful so it hurts in training and I am not enjoying it like I usually do.

"I'm afraid this injury is a serious one. If the pain continues, I'll have to have an MRI scan."

Krstajic's defensive colleague Nemanja Vidic is struggling to shake off a cold, but has plenty of time to recover, as he will miss the game against the Holland through suspension after being red carded in the final game of the qualifying campaign.
