Lukovic missing for Serbia

Neven Subotic is expected to replace the suspended Alex Lukovic when Serbia attempt to get their World Cup back on track against Germany.

The Serbs lost their opening game 1-0 to Ghana in a match which saw Lukovic sent off and Subotic is likely to replace the suspended defender.

Germany are expected to be unchanged following their stunning 4-0 win over Australia in their World Cup opener.

But boss Joachim Low has warned his players not to be caught out by a Serbia backlash as they attempt to continue their charge into the last 16.

He said: "Serbia are like a boxer who has taken the first blow, and they will be poised to hit back. They simply have to win the next match, so we know they will be poised to hit back.

"I have heard their coach (Radomir Antic) talk about honour and character. He says it's an historic match, the match of the year, so it is going to be difficult."

Low has been praised by Antic for putting his nation's World Cup hopes in the hands of youngsters.

Low included 20-year-old Thomas Mueller and Holger Badstuber, 21, in his starting line-up for the demolition of Australia, and saw both men turn in fine performances in an irresistible display by his team.

Mueller capped his evening by scoring Germany's third goal in Durban to underline the threat he poses to Serbia's hopes of bouncing back from their defeat by Ghana.

Antic said: "The team [Germany] has a lot of new players, young players who are gifted, and with what they have shown so far, they have managed to win places in the squad. Their coach was very right when he decided to put them into the German squad."
