27 May 2010 14:31
We continue our countdown to the World Cup with a look at Manchester United's tough-tackling defender Nemanja Vidic.

Name: Nemanja Vidic

Age: 28

Club: Manchester united

Country: Serbia

International caps: 44

International goals: 2

Vidic started his senior career at Red Star Belgrade, before moving to Spartak Moscow in 2000.

His reputation as a dominant central defender was enhanced by his role at the heart of the Serbian national side, who conceded just once during their qualifying campaign for the 2006 World Cup.

In January 2006, Manchester United paid a reported £7 million to bring Vidic to the Premier League, and he soon formed a partnership with future England captain Rio Ferdinand.

Vidic has won three Premier League titles and counting at United, and was part of the 2008 Champions League winning squad.

He was named Barclays Player of the Season on the back of that campaign.

Vidic missed the 2006 World Cup Finals through injury, and will not be short of motivation to make an impression in South Africa. Serbia won their qualifying group, and emerged once again with a superb defensive record.
