Steve Wharton, the Scunthorpe United chairman, has been ranked the 68th wealthiest person in British football in the latest FourFourTwo rich list. The magazine produces an annual list of the 100th richest people in the game in the Unite Kingdom, with Wharton and his family estimated to be worth £40million. This is up from the £33m they rated him and his family at last season. "We can see nearly £34m net assets in the 2009 accounts of Wharton family companies including J Wharton (Agriculture). But with any reinvestment of sale proceeds, we value Wharton at £40m," say the authors of the report. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nayhan, owner of Manchester City, is ranked the wealthiest man in British football with an estimated value of £20billion. The overall value of the Abu Dhabi royal family, which Sheikh Mansour is a member of, is given as £400bn. Lakshmi Mittal, owner of Queens Park Rangers, is the second wealthiest at £17bn. The Libherr family are ranked fifth with a wealth of £3bn, which explains the funds which attracted Nigel Adkins to Southampton last month.
