Vuvuzelas banned from Glanford Park

Scunthorpe have become the latest club to ban vuvuzelas from matches - saying they have made the decision based on supporter feedback. Vuvuzelas - long plastic horns - came to prominence during the recent World Cup finals in South Africa, with the constant noise from them leaving more of an impact on viewers than the England team managed. Although they caused nothing more dangerous than a headache in South Africa, many clubs in England have banned them from home games. United said they fall foul of current regulations, and cited concerns about them being thrown onto the pitch, being used as a weapon or drowning out the tannoy during an announcement. "The club has received very robust input from supporters on the subject of vuvuzelas since the World Cup started in June, with the vast majority firmly against them being allowed into Glanford Park," read a statement.
