Sharp keen on Iron stay
30 Mar 2007 - 10:18:06
Scunthorpe United striker Billy Sharp has played down talk of a summer move to the Premiership.
The 20-year-old has netted 26 times in all competitions this season and recent reports in the media linked the Iron hotshot with Premiership giants Liverpool.
But the highly-rated forward claims he is only focusing on helping Scunthorpe achieve promotion to the Championship and insists he is in no rush to leave Glanford Park.
"It's all very flattering, especially when one of the stories involved Liverpool, but they're just rumours," he said.
"I've got a big job to do here at Scunthorpe. We've been top of the league for three months now, but there's still some work to do and if I can keep scoring my goals here and we maintain our form we could do it."
However, the former Sheffield United trainee admitted a return to Bramall Lane in the future would be too good to refuse.
Sharp left the Blades in 2005 after failing to make the grade at first-teal level.
"My dream is to one day play for Sheffield United," he added.
"They're my team. It wasn't meant to be when I was there as a kid, but for now I'm more than happy here and my contract takes me to the end of next season."
