Minstermen dampen Iron celebrations
Scunthorpe's promotion celebrations were dampened as they surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with in-form York who stretched their unbeaten run to 17 games to head with confidence into the play-offs.
Right from the start, there was plenty of attacking intent from both teams. It was Scunthorpe who had the early edge and they struck first in the 19th minute when left-back Eddie Nolan measured a perfect cross into the middle for striker Paddy Madden to come racing in to plant a close-range header past goalkeeper Nick Pope.
It was only the fourth goal conceded by York in their last 17 games and five minutes later they were almost back on level terms when midfielder Adam Reed found himself well placed on the edge of the six yard box but saw his shot brilliantly blocked away by keeper Sam Slocombe.
After a spell of good possession, it was Scunthorpe who went 2-0 ahead in the 38th minute when winger Terry Hawkridge worked himself an opening inside the box to force a shot low into the far corner of the net for his first league goal.
They looked in command, but York hit back in first-half stoppage time when Ryan Brobbel produced a stunning finish with a right-footed shot from the edge of the box.
York then stormed forward in the second half in search of an equaliser, forcing a series of corners.
They were rewarded with an equaliser in the 71st minute when Scunthorpe failed to clear their lines from a set-piece and a cross-shot from substitute Will Hayhurst found its way in to the bottom far corner of the net for a deserved point.
